General FAQs

1. Which areas in Cape Town do you service?

We service most of the Cape Town region, including the Cape Flats, Northern Suburbs, Southern Suburbs, Atlantic Seaboard, City Bowl, West Coast, South Peninsula and surrounding areas.

If you’re unsure whether we cover your suburb, contact us. The chances are we already work there regularly.

2. Do you offer free estimates?

Yes. Planet Automation offers free estimates via the phone. If you provide us with as much information and photos then we can provide you a free estimate and should you be happy with the estimate, we can come out to site to finalise measurements etc. 

Site assessments carry a small fee, which is waived if you proceed with the recommended installation on new equipment only.  

3. How quickly can you respond?

Most diagnostic and call-outs are attended to same day or next day , depending on location and urgency.

Emergency repairs  for existing clients who have a history of maintaining and not just doing repairs, when things break, receive priority.

Gate Motor FAQs

1. What gate motor brands do you install or repair?

We supply, install and repair:

2. How often should my gate motor be serviced?

Manufacturers recommend a minimum of once a year.
Cape Town’s salty air, humidity, sand and even load-shedding causes faster wear. Therefore, we recommend regular servicing as it prevents breakdowns and expensive part failures.

3. Do you offer gate motor upgrades?

Yes, we upgrade:

  • The Centurion D5 to D5 Evo Smart

  • Old ET motors to NICE Drive Gate Motors

  • Manual gates to fully automated sliding or swing gates

Garage Door FAQs

1. What types of garage doors do you work on?

We install and repair:

2.  Why is my garage door loud or struggling to open?

It is usually caused by:

  • Worn rollers or hinges

  • Weak or snapped springs

  • Dry or dirty tracks

  • Poor balancing

  • Faulty motor or limit settings

We recommend you have your door serviced at a minimum of once a year depending on how often you use your garage door.

3. What is a diagnostic fee?

Diagnostic fees are done on all existing equipment for us to assess and do any fault finds on garage doors and motors, gates, intercom systems and CCTV systems.
