Different formats of CCTV systems

Analogue CCTV system

Analogue CCTV cameras stream video images to a digital video recorder (DVR) which converts the video to a digital format. To view the video, the DVR needs to be connected to a monitor or internet router. The router allows for remote access via an APP.

IP CCTV system

An Internet Protocol camera, or IP camera, is a digital video camera that receives control data and sends image data via the Internet to a Network Video Recorder. These cameras are commonly used for surveillance. however unlike analog CCTV cameras, they require no local recording device if you are wanting to use them for live streaming purposes.

Differences

Analogue CCTV uses coax and a power cable while an IP camera uses standard network (Cat 5e or Cat 6) cabling.

IP cameras today have a much higher resolution than Analogue CCTV cameras. The higher resolution of IP cameras results in a much larger field of view when compared to analog cameras.
