Michael du Plessis is the driving force behind Planet Automation. A company renowned for its expertise in garage doors, gate motors and home security solutions in Cape Town. With a career spanning over three decades, Michael’s journey is a testament to his dedication, innovation and leadership in the security industry.
Early Career and Education
Michael’s journey began at Western Province Technical College in Cape Town, where he studied electronics. His passion for technology and a desire for a dynamic career led him to supply and install computer equipment. However, his true calling emerged when he transitioned into the security industry.
Professional Growth
Michael’s first significant role was with an alarm equipment manufacturing company, where he was instrumental in implementing ISO9001 standards. His expertise and leadership skills quickly propelled him to the position of Sales Manager at an international company starting up in South Africa. His exceptional performance earned him the role of Country Manager and he was later headhunted by Chubb Fire & Security.
During his 18-year tenure at Chubb, Michael held various managerial positions. This included General Manager for Cape Town and Regional Managing Director of the Cape Region. His comprehensive understanding of the business and his ability to drive growth and innovation were key to his success

In 2017, Michael acquired Planet Security and rebranded it to Planet Automation, focusing on garage doors, intercoms, and automation systems. Under his leadership, Planet Automation has become synonymous with quality and reliability. Michael’s commitment to meeting customer expectations and delivering exceptional service has been the cornerstone of the company’s success.
